ROUND 6

Hidden in their dark coats

Elegant and modest

People are beautiful in Winter

Domitille Desforges

waves crash on the shore

leaving treasures of the sea

as the tide retreats

          Matt Simo

Mist of my mind's eye

Forever settling there

Down below my hair.

          Sam Jack

squirrels are getting fat

as they dart across the lawn

to hide new found food

          Heidi Vogel

icy frigid nights

painting beautiful landscapes

for all of the world

Too much of a rush

To get everywhere at once

Without being there

          Mike He

Breath fogs the window

Rain is pouring down outside

Cold, the trees shudder

          Veronica Bordewick

Hands stuffed in pockets

Warm smiles chased away by cold

Eyes gazing straight down

          Rebecca Petzel

Will we come around?

Like the fall into winter

Winter turns to spring

          Pamela Snyder

Walking a deer trail,

It runs into a thicket

The leaves fall gently.

          Nic Jelinski

The evening has come to rest on the shoulders of the day,

Sagging them into a lazy orange sleep,

Swaying them into a slow orange slumber,

Singing away the white-hot days of the summer.

We have kicked away the last wicked steps of the rain.

Sewn from the trees, cut from the quilt,

The yellow fall, laced with leaves, spills to the ground.

After hours of laughing, the hours grow late,

And stretched out you are the beginning of the leaves;

A wine-red truth in the last days of the summer.

We will shock the clouds from the sky, leaving nothing but stars.

Moon blues eyes in a new moon night.

          Nic Jelinski

Rain clouds appear

Dark sky follows soon after

Play in the puddles

          Benjamin Krams

We gather around the kitchen table

Like so many times before

Only the head is left empty

The matriarch is gone

Who will now sit in the branches of the treetop

To watch over the parts that give the family soul?

          Claire Cragan

Orange, red and yellow

Crunchy leaves are on the ground

Jump in them and laugh

          Blaire Skinner

Morning dew clings to

My shoes as I walk to the

Bus stop, now I wait

          Steve Miller

Who else do I help?

Folks lost on the winding trail

Just lost from themselves

          Eva Denny
