SUSTAINABILITY RESOURCES

Several previous classes developed a list of books that individuals had read that had changed their lives in some way. This is that list: Books That Changed My Life.

Students have also been developing a list of classes at the UW that any student would benefit from. These classes are the type of classes that students will remember long after they are gone from the university: UW Classes Not To Be Missed.

A final resource that students have developed is a list of Things You Can Do to Live More Sustainably.

In addition to the lists above, other resources are available through this page. Please spend some time browsing the information that is provided in the following categories: Sustainable Businesses & Purchasing, Non-Profits & Trade Organizations, Progressive Organizations, Publications, Conferences, and Universities with Programs on Sustainability. Feel free to submit any recommendations to be added to these resources.

If you have not had enough of listening to Tom, here are presentations that he has done on some aspect of sustainability. Feel free to comment on these in the forums listed on the Continue the Converstation page.

Finally, here are some organizations with which students can become involved: Business Action for Sustainable Enterprise and Net Impact.

Building a Sustainable, Green and Healthy Home - The Eggerts remodeled and added on to their 1960 ranch house in the summer of 2006. In deciding on a design, choosing materials and furnishing the newly constructed space, principles of sustainability were of primary importance. When they started into this process, they hoped that green building expertise was generally available in the Madison area to guide them through how to make the project as environmentally friendly, and healthy as possible. However, they discovered that such expertise was generally not available. This detailed account of their experiences is designed to make the process of greening a building project a little less formidable.

If, as a browser of this site, you have suggestions for either of these lists, please email Tom Eggert.
